In the early 1920s the Spreckels Tire Company created some print ads that were ahead of their time. They claim to have hired a Native American writer to produce the text of the ads, and they may very well have. Even more ahead of their time, Spreckels chose to collect those 18 ads and publish them together in this brochure.

"The author and illustrator of the historical articles appearing in this series is a full-blooded Indian. Living first, the life of an Apache boy among his own people, he later studied at the white man's universities. He is considered an authority on the history of the Southwest and the legends of the desert tribes, and writes from the view point of the red man as well as with the knowledge of the pale-face; imparting new and entirely different angles to many old and familiar subjects.

"The eighteen articles in the series divide naturally into three main groups --- historical, customs and traditions. The first six deal with the history, and the next six with the customs of the Indians. The last six are on traditions and the author assures us these have never appeared in print before."

Very scarce.
